Tert-Butyl Peroxypivalate
Tert-Butylperoxypivalate is an organic peroxide widely used as a free-radical initiator in polymerization processes. It is typically a colorless to pale yellow liquid with a characteristic odor and is soluble in many organic solvents but only slightly soluble in water. Due to its controlled decomposition at moderate temperatures, it is used in the production of polymers and resins such as PVC, styrene, acrylates, and methacrylates, where it initiates chain reactions efficiently. It is also applied in curing unsaturated polyester resins and in other specialty chemical syntheses. As an organic peroxide, it must be handled with care due to its flammability and potential explosive hazard under heat or contamination.
