Industrial Applications
Sodium Borohydride is widely used as a versatile reducing agent in chemical synthesis, particularly for the conversion of aldehydes and ketones into their corresponding alcohols. In industry, it plays an important role in wastewater treatment by reducing and removing harmful pollutants and heavy metals. It is also applied in the production of pharmaceuticals, paper bleaching processes, and has emerging applications in hydrogen storage research due to its high hydrogen content.
Physical Properties
Sodium Borohydride typically appears as a fine white crystalline powder with no significant odor. It is moderately soluble in water and stable under dry conditions, but reacts vigorously with acids and moisture to release hydrogen gas.
