N-Methyldiethanolamine

Oil and Gas

N-Methyldiethanolamine is a clear, colorless to pale yellow, hygroscopic liquid with a slight amine-like odor. It is completely miscible with water and many organic solvents and features both tertiary amine and hydroxyl functional groups. In the oil and gas industry, N-Methyldiethanolamine is widely used in gas treating processes-particularly for the selective removal of hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) and carbon dioxide (CO₂) from natural gas and refinery streams-due to its high chemical stability, low vapor pressure, and favorable absorption characteristics. It is also utilized as an emulsifier, corrosion inhibitor component, and intermediate in the formulation of specialty oilfield chemicals.
