Methylisobutyl Ketone Peroxide
Industrial Application
Methylisobutyl Ketone Peroxide (MIBKP) is widely used as a free-radical initiator and crosslinking agent in the polymerization and curing of unsaturated polyester resins, acrylics, and other thermosetting plastics. It is also applied in coatings, adhesives, and composites manufacturing. Due to its instability, it must be handled with care, stored at low temperatures, and kept away from contaminants or reducing agents.
Physical Properties
Methylisobutyl Ketone Peroxide is an organic peroxide derived from methyl isobutyl ketone, typically appearing as a colorless to pale yellow liquid with a pungent odor. It is highly reactive, thermally unstable, and usually supplied in diluted form with stabilizers or phlegmatizers to reduce explosion risk. MIBKP is insoluble in water, but soluble in many organic solvents.
