Industrial Applications
Menthol is widely used in personal care products for its cooling and soothing effects. It is commonly incorporated into lip balms, aftershaves, toothpastes, and topical analgesics to provide a refreshing sensation, temporary relief from minor pain, itching, or irritation, and can also act as a mild local anesthetic and decongestant.
Physical Properties
Menthol is a naturally occurring, crystalline, organic compound with a characteristic minty odor. It is slightly soluble in water but readily soluble in alcohols and oils, making it suitable for incorporation into a variety of cosmetic, pharmaceutical, and personal care formulations.
