Industrial Applications
Glycolic Acid is widely used in the cosmetics and personal care industry as an exfoliant, pH adjuster, and active ingredient in formulations targeting skin renewal. It is commonly incorporated into chemical peels, anti-aging creams, acne treatments, and skin-lightening products. Beyond personal care, glycolic acid is used in textile processing, leather tanning, and as a chemical intermediate in the production of biodegradable polymers and other organic chemicals.
Physical Properties
Glycolic Acid is a colorless to white crystalline solid or viscous liquid, highly soluble in water. It has a mild, acidic odor and is hygroscopic. The compound is chemically stable under normal conditions but can be corrosive at higher concentrations. Its small molecular size allows it to penetrate the skin effectively, making it ideal for dermatological and cosmetic applications.
