Epoxidised Linseed Oil
Epoxidized Linseed Oil (ELO) is a bio-based, viscous liquid derived from the epoxidation of linseed oil, typically appearing as a pale yellow to amber fluid with a mild odor. It has a high epoxy oxygen content (typically 8–9%) and good thermal stability, with low volatility and compatibility with a variety of polymers. ELO functions primarily as a plasticizer and secondary heat stabilizer in polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and other plastics, where its epoxy groups react with and neutralize acidic degradation products, improving flexibility, UV resistance, and longevity. In addition to plastics, it is used in coatings, adhesives, sealants, and as a reactive diluent in epoxy resin systems. Being sourced from renewable vegetable oil, it is favored in applications seeking sustainable and non-phthalate additives.
