Dibutyl Phthalate
Industrial Applications
Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP) is widely used in the pharmaceutical industry as a plasticizer for polymer-based coatings. It enhances the flexibility, durability, and adhesion of film coatings applied to tablets and capsules, helping control dissolution rates and improve product stability. Dibutyl Phthalate is also used in the processing of polymeric excipients and coating systems, contributing to smoother film formation and improved mechanical properties of coated dosage forms.
Physical Properties
Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP) is a clear, colorless to faintly yellow oily liquid with low volatility and a mild odor. It is insoluble in water but readily soluble in most organic solvents. Its molecular structure allows it to efficiently soften and plasticize polymers, improving their flexibility and elasticity. Dibutyl Phthalate has a relatively low vapor pressure and good thermal stability, which support its use in controlled coating and manufacturing processes.
