Industrial Applications
Cetyl Bromide is a long-chain alkyl bromide primarily used as an intermediate in organic synthesis. It serves as a quaternization agent in the production of cationic surfactants, emulsifiers, and phase transfer catalysts. In the personal care and cosmetic industries, it can be used in the synthesis of conditioning agents, antistatic agents, and hair or skin treatment formulations. Additionally, it finds applications in specialty chemicals, lubricants, and as a reagent in laboratory-scale reactions.
Physical Properties
Cetyl Bromide is a white to off-white solid or waxy material at room temperature. It has low water solubility but is soluble in many organic solvents such as alcohols, ethers, and chloroform. It has a high melting point and is stable under normal conditions, but may decompose on prolonged exposure to heat or light. As a long-chain alkyl halide, it is dense relative to water and has limited volatility.
