Cetyl Alcohol
Industrial Applications
Cetyl Alcohol is widely used in industrial and commercial applications due to its waxy solid form, low toxicity, and compatibility with both water and oil phases. It serves as an emollient, emulsifier, thickening agent, and opacifier in formulations such as moisturizers, hair conditioners, shaving creams, sunscreens, and other personal care products. Cetyl Alcohol is also employed in industrial processes requiring solid fatty alcohols to modify viscosity, stabilize emulsions, or improve texture and consistency in creams, lotions, and ointments.
Physical Properties
Cetyl Alcohol is a white, waxy solid or flakes at room temperature. It is insoluble in water but soluble in many organic solvents. It has a melting point around 49–51°C and exhibits low volatility. Chemically stable under normal conditions, Cetyl Alcohol is a C16 fatty alcohol derived from natural oils. Its emollient, thickening, and emulsifying properties make it highly suitable for both personal care and industrial formulations.
