Stearic Acid
Industrial Applications
Stearic Acid is widely used in industrial and personal care applications. It serves as a key ingredient in soaps, detergents, and cosmetics, acting as a surfactant, emulsifier, and thickening agent. In manufacturing, it is used in the production of candles, rubber, lubricants, oil pastels, and waxes. Its ability to stabilize formulations and impart texture makes it essential in both household and industrial products.
Physical Properties
Stearic Acid is a white, waxy solid fatty acid. It has a long hydrocarbon chain with a terminal carboxylic acid group, giving it amphiphilic properties. It is insoluble in water but soluble in hot alcohol, ether, and other nonpolar organic solvents. Stearic Acid has a melting point of approximately 69–70°C, making it suitable for shaping and solidifying products in soaps, candles, and other industrial applications.
