Dibenzoyl Peroxide
Industrial Application
Dibenzoyl Peroxide is widely used as a polymerization initiator for resins and plastics, a curing agent for unsaturated polyester resins, and a crosslinking agent in rubber production. It is also employed as a bleaching agent in flour and hair care products, and in controlled amounts, as an acne treatment in pharmaceuticals due to its antibacterial and keratolytic properties.
Physical Properties
Dibenzoyl Peroxide is an organic peroxide that appears as a white crystalline powder or granular solid with a faint, benzaldehyde-like odor. It is insoluble in water but soluble in organic solvents such as acetone, chloroform, and ether. Highly reactive and thermally unstable, it readily decomposes to release free radicals, making it a powerful initiator in free-radical polymerization processes.
