n-Octane 99%
Industrial Applications
n-Octane is widely used in the petroleum and automotive industries, primarily as a reference hydrocarbon in determining fuel octane ratings, which measure a fuel’s resistance to engine knocking. It also serves as a solvent in the production of paints, varnishes, adhesives, and coatings. In laboratory and industrial settings, n-Octane is used as a standard for chromatographic analysis, a carrier solvent, and a component in organic synthesis and chemical formulations.
Physical Properties
n-Octane is a clear, colorless, volatile liquid with a mild hydrocarbon odor. It is insoluble in water but miscible with most organic solvents. n-Octane has a boiling point of approximately 126°C and a relatively low density typical of aliphatic hydrocarbons. It is highly flammable, has low viscosity, and exhibits low chemical reactivity under normal conditions, making it useful as a solvent and fuel component.
