Monoammonium Phosphate
Industrial Applications
Monoammonium Phosphate (MAP) is an inorganic phosphate salt widely used in industrial, agricultural, and commercial applications. Its primary use is as a nitrogen and phosphorus source in fertilizers, where it provides readily available nutrients to promote plant growth. In industrial settings, Monoammonium Phosphate is also used as a flame retardant and fire suppression agent, particularly in dry chemical fire extinguishers. Additionally, it is used in food processing as a leavening agent and acidity regulator, as well as in animal feed formulations and water treatment applications. Monoammonium Phosphate is also employed in metal finishing, ceramics, and as a buffering agent in chemical manufacturing.
Physical Properties
Monoammonium Phosphate is a white to off-white crystalline solid that is highly soluble in water. It is odorless, non-flammable, and chemically stable under normal storage conditions. The compound exhibits acidic properties when dissolved in water due to partial dissociation. Monoammonium Phosphate has good thermal stability and decomposes at elevated temperatures, releasing ammonia and phosphoric acid derivatives.
