Methanol
Industrial Applications
Methanol is widely used as a solvent, fuel, and chemical feedstock in industrial and commercial applications. It serves as a raw material in the production of formaldehyde, acetic acid, methyl esters, and other chemical intermediates. Methanol is also used as an antifreeze agent, in coatings, inks, adhesives, and in the manufacture of pharmaceuticals and personal care products. Its low molecular weight and polarity make it an effective solvent for a wide range of compounds.
Physical Properties
Methanol is a light, volatile, colorless, and flammable liquid with a characteristic alcoholic odor. It is fully miscible with water and many organic solvents. Methanol has a low boiling point and low viscosity. Chemically, it is stable under normal conditions but is highly flammable and toxic if ingested, inhaled, or absorbed through the skin.
