Industrial Applications
Sorbitan Monostearate is widely used in food processing as an emulsifier in baked goods, margarine, and chocolate. Additionally, it is used in the processing of cosmetics and personal care products (creams, lotions), pharmaceuticals, and in industrial applications such as plastics and coatings. Sorbitan Monostearate also serves as an anti-crystallization agent and a dispersant in various formulations.
Physical Properties
Sorbitan Monostearate is a nonionic surfactant and emulsifier produced by the esterification of sorbitol with stearic acid. It typically appears as a light cream to yellow waxy solid or powder and is insoluble in water but dispersible in warm water and soluble in oils. It is known for its ability to stabilize oil-in-water and water-in-oil emulsions.
