Copper Iodide
Industrial Applications
Copper(I) Iodide (CuI) is used widely in industrial, chemical, and commercial applications. It serves as a catalyst in organic synthesis, including coupling reactions and polymerization processes. Copper(I) Iodide is also employed as an additive in inks, paints, coatings, and adhesives to improve stability and adhesion. In electronics, it is used in semiconductors and as a transparent conductive material. Additionally, Copper(I) Iodide finds applications in wood preservation, as a fungicide, and in certain antimicrobial coatings.
Physical Properties
Copper(I) Iodide is a white to off-white crystalline solid that is insoluble in water but soluble in concentrated potassium iodide solutions. It is stable under normal conditions but decomposes upon strong heating. Copper(I) Iodide is non-volatile, has low toxicity relative to other copper compounds, and exhibits good chemical stability when stored in a dry, dark environment.
