Industrial Applications
1,4-Dioxane is widely used as a solvent in numerous industrial processes due to its high miscibility with water and many organic compounds. It is commonly incorporated into manufacturing formulations for paints, varnishes, dyes, detergents, adhesives, and cleaning products. In chemical synthesis, 1,4-Dioxane serves as an effective reaction medium for polymerization, pharmaceutical intermediate production, and reagent preparation. Additionally, it is used as a stabilizer for chlorinated solvents and as an extraction solvent in certain industrial workflows.
Physical Properties
1,4-Dioxane is a clear, colorless, flammable liquid with a faintly sweet, ether-like odor. It has a low viscosity and mixes completely with water, alcohols, esters, and many organic solvents. The compound has a boiling point of approximately 101°C and a melting point around 11°C. It is relatively stable under normal conditions but forms explosive peroxides upon prolonged exposure to air. Its uniform miscibility and chemical stability make it a versatile solvent in laboratory and industrial environments.
