Isoamylene
Manufacturing
Isoamylene is a clear, colorless liquid consisting of several isomeric forms of pentene with a distinct, gasoline-like odor. It is primarily used as an intermediate in the production of additives for gasoline, such as high-octane blending components, which improve fuel performance and reduce engine knocking. Isoamylene also serves as a building block in the manufacture of synthetic lubricants, plasticizers, and various chemical reagents.
