Cetearyl Alcohol is a mixture of fatty alcohols, consisting predominantly of cetyl (C16) and stearyl alcohols (C18) and is classified as a fatty alcohol. It is either in liquid or solid form and is used in a variety of applications ranging from personal care and cosmetics industries to textiles and home, industrial and institutional cleaning (HI&I) markets.

Ceteareth compounds are synthesized as polyethylene glycol ether from cetearyl alcohol. They are off-white solids typically found in cosmetics and personal care products. They act as emulsifiers and surfactants. Commonly they are used in products such as moisturizers, exfoliators, medicinal skin products, and hair products.
