Tallow Dimethyl Amine
Tallow Dimethyl Amine is a tertiary amine derived from tallow fatty acids, primarily composed of long-chain alkyl groups (typically C16-C18) bonded to a dimethylamine moiety. It appears as a pale yellow to amber liquid or waxy solid at room temperature, with a characteristic amine odor. It is insoluble in water but soluble in many organic solvents. In industrial applications, Tallow Dimethyl Amine is used as an intermediate in the synthesis of quaternary ammonium compounds (quats), which function as surfactants, fabric softeners, and antistatic agents. It also finds use in corrosion inhibitors, emulsifiers, flotation agents, and as a lubricant additive in metalworking and agricultural formulations due to its surface-active and film-forming properties.
