Sorbitan Mono Oleate
Oil and Gas
Sorbitan Monooleate is a nonionic surfactant derived from the esterification of sorbitol with oleic acid, typically appearing as a viscous amber to dark yellow liquid with a mild fatty odor. It is insoluble in water but dispersible in oils and many organic solvents, exhibiting excellent emulsifying, dispersing, and wetting properties. In the oil and gas industry, Sorbitan Monooleate is used as a primary or co-emulsifier in oil-based drilling fluids, workover fluids, and cementing systems. It helps stabilize water-in-oil emulsions, reduce interfacial tension, and improve mud rheology and fluid loss control. Its thermal stability and compatibility with hydrocarbons make it a key additive in demanding downhole environments.
