Industrial Applications
Petrolatum, derived from dewaxed lubricating oil, is widely used in the personal care and cosmetics industry due to its occlusive and moisturizing properties. It is incorporated into skin care products, ointments, lip balms, and hair care formulations to prevent moisture loss and protect the skin. Additionally, it is used in waxes, industrial greases, and as a base for topical medications.
Physical Properties
Petrolatum is a semi-solid, colorless to pale yellow hydrocarbon with a bland odor. It is insoluble in water but soluble in most organic solvents. It has high chemical stability, low reactivity, and excellent lubricating and moisture-retention properties, making it suitable for diverse personal care and industrial applications.
