2-Bromopropionyl Bromide
Industrial Applications
2-Bromopropionyl Bromide is a highly reactive acyl halide widely used as an intermediate in organic synthesis. It is employed in the preparation of cellulose-based macroinitiators, 3-(2-bromopropionyl)-2-oxazolidone derivatives, and bromoester-terminated polymers, including materials such as poly(3-hexylthiophene). Owing to its strong electrophilic reactivity, the compound is valuable in the synthesis of specialty chemicals, pharmaceutical intermediates, and advanced polymer materials, particularly in controlled radical polymerization and functional material development.
Physical Properties
2-Bromopropionyl Bromide is a colorless to pale yellow liquid with high reactivity toward moisture. It reacts readily with water, releasing corrosive byproducts, and must therefore be handled under dry, controlled conditions. The compound should be stored in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area, away from moisture, heat, and incompatible substances. Due to its corrosive and reactive nature, appropriate protective equipment and strict handling procedures are required to ensure safety and maintain product integrity.
