Thiophene-2-Aldehyde
Thiophene-2-Aldehyde is an aromatic heterocyclic aldehyde consisting of a thiophene ring substituted at the 2-position with a formyl group. It appears as a pale yellow to light brown liquid with a strong, pungent odor. It is soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol, ether, and chloroform, but only slightly soluble in water. In industry, thiophene-2-aldehyde is primarily used as an intermediate in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and specialty chemicals, as well as in the production of flavor and fragrance compounds. Its reactive aldehyde group enables further chemical transformations, while the thiophene ring imparts unique electronic properties useful in materials science applications.
