It is commonly employed in the synthesis of fatty amines, amides, and other nitrogen-containing derivatives, which are used in surfactants, corrosion inhibitors, lubricants, and specialty additives. In industrial chemistry, Lauryl Nitrile serves as a building block for fine chemicals and functional materials where hydrophobic chain length and controlled reactivity are required. It is also utilized in research and development settings for studying nitrile reactivity and for custom synthesis in specialty chemical applications. In the coal and mining industries, Lauryl Nitrile is primarily utilized as a specialty surfactant and mining chemical. It functions as a frothing/flotation agent to separate valuable minerals from coal, and acts as a corrosion inhibitor.

Lauryl Nitrile is a clear to pale yellow liquid with low volatility and a hydrophobic character typical of long-chain aliphatic compounds. It exhibits limited solubility in water but dissolves readily in many organic solvents. The material is stable under normal storage conditions but should be handled with care due to its nitrile functionality. Lauryl Nitrile should be stored in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area, away from strong oxidizing agents, with standard industrial handling practices observed to maintain safety and product integrity.
