Crotonic Acid, also known as tiglic acid, is primarily used as an intermediate in organic synthesis for the production of pharmaceuticals, fragrances, and agricultural chemicals. Its reactive functional groups also make it valuable in polymer production and other chemical modifications where unsaturated carboxylic acids are required.
Physical Properties
Crotonic Acid is a colorless to pale yellow liquid with a pungent, unpleasant odor. As an unsaturated carboxylic acid, it contains both a double bond and a carboxyl group, contributing to its reactivity in chemical synthesis and industrial applications.
